Q & A

How do you choose which language to write in?

Passion. Purpose.

If the average human life span was 40 years, how would you live the next half of your life?

Leave all social media behind, get up at sunrise and watch every sunset, meet a stranger every day, do a cartwheel every day, too, dance in odd places, travel by foot with nothing but my passport and the clothes on my body, learn a new language as well as plant and animal names, avoid clocks or mirrors, skinny dip and cut my hair, make out in public, write a book. Or two.

Would you be willing to reduce your life expectancy by 10 years to become extremely attractive or famous?

Oh please.

Have you ever been with someone, said nothing, and walked away feeling like you just had the best conversation ever?

All infants, my grandfather on his deathbed, my sisters who just get it every time.

When was the last time you noticed the sound of your own breathing?

Just now. In church, at Yoga, on the telephone, giving a speech, making out, walking up more than 16 steps, swimming, dancing.

What is your favorite sparetime activity?

Swing dancing!

When is it time to stop calculating risk and rewards, and just go ahead and do what you know is right?

Always, the ego will get over it. Also, risk, reward and righteousness aren’t always exclusive.

What is the difference between being alive and truly living?

Being a contemplative in action. (Jesuit maxim.)

Why do religions that support love cause so many wars?

Religion gets in the way of Relationship.

If you could offer a newborn child only one piece of advice, what would it be?

Try it.

What’s something you know you do differently than most people?

My hair. My guestbook entries.

If we learn from our mistakes, why are we always so afraid to make a mistake?

Fear of judgement and imminent loneliness.

What, who do you love?

God, the prospect. My blood and world family. The benefit of the doubt. Simple foods. Decluttered decor. The American South. Independence. Packing my passport. Voting. A long run.
