that day (6) – two speeches

the warm hours of the afternoon,

we spent talking,

hugging,

making toasts,

going on walks,

resting a bit,

meandering from one soul to the next.

every time he and I crossed paths,

my heart leapt a bit.

then two men appeared

on the stone step stage leading into the yard,

sharing their perspectives of dads and fathers-in-law.

they meant what they said,

in their speeches, too,

didn’t they, oh my!!

oh how I cried and laughed

at the wisdom, poise and eloquence shared

by these two folks

I admire so much.

they shall work their meaning in us,

these words,

and help us knit the fabric

that families are made up of.
