late-night flaneuring

after a lovely dinner with a lovely friend

who had other commitments lined up,

I hopped off my bike, grabbed a beer,

and walked.

and so I walked

through loud and lively streets,

drunk and happy crowds,

music oozing out of underground clubs,

my memories from the past week and

the essence of the conversations I’d had,

and the little circles on the sidewalk

drawn by the lantern coats of light.

it was just me, out there, and it was right.

sometimes you don’t have to go far

to be exactly where you need to be.
