of course their monumental moments
of being sobered and excited
occurred on top of snow-covered, solitary mountains
far away from rules, regulations, conventions of civilizations,
whether it was Moses, Elijah or Aretha.
the only thing I don’t get is why
they didn’t take their loves up there
to reground their bond,
to renew their vows every now and again.
not just God benefits from it.
real, human, complex, beautiful love persisting near the clouds
where the air is thin and the sun merciless,
where the path is narrow and water is rare,
where only one makes it beside the other,
surely is one to cherish and,
if possible, keep.
