In Arabic, no man, woman or child makes a plan
without making room for
- human error
- natural forces
- universal energies
- God’s will.
Even non-believers weave this wise and wondrous phrase into every agenda,
well-knowing that inevitably, life is perpetual change,
especially the more rigidly we seek to contain and control it.
As I’ve recently canceled all my most immediate plans
to let my body heal and regain its strength,
I, too, try the comfort of this linguistic device.
I will not post the results out here, my friends,
because the punch-line is already in the title.
But I will say this poetry is worth your try,
no matter how small you can muster.
