The Summer 2011 Project: Going to Romania with LE

I am now a fifth-semester linguistics major and English and government minor at Georgetown University in Washington, DC, and I am having the time of my life! My family, professors, and friends are supporting me as I am conquering new adventures, and I would like to tell you about one in particular.

I am dedicating my undertaking to both of my grandfathers, Hans-Georg Raschpichler and Georg Guntram, who have both been teachers—and students—all of their lives. As I will be traveling first to the Romanian village Cherechiu a

This is where I will be traveling on 22 June 2011

nd then to an orphanage in Sumuleu-Ciuc in order to teach English as a Second Language (ESL) to the children there, I will pass forward the mission that these two extraordinary men have lived for.

I will be teaching in an area that does not have access to adequate education resources.

Iwill also participate in a cross-cultural exchange, as I will be a role model for many children who have never met someone from outside of their community. This will be a very challenging and eye-opening experience, but I’m thrilled to have the opportunity!
